Hello, Could you help me, please? I’m an US citizen and want to buy an apartment in Tashkent for my sister-in-law. What is the procedure? Should we register the apartment for both of us, or for her, or for me only to minimize the tax? What is the money transferring policy in Uzbekistan? Thank you in advance, Len
First of all to buy an apartment in Uzbekistan, one has to be a resident of Uzbekistan. That is, as a foreign citizen neither you nor your sister-in-law can register for an apartment in Uzbekistan.
Procedure of procurement of a residential real estate differs with respect to primary and secondary market.
In order to purchase an apartment (non-commercial) in Tashkent, seller does the most part with documentation. This requires the seller to prove no debt for utilities. Paperwork takes a week to complete. Once all required documents are ready, the buyer and the seller go to “BTI”, for the purchase transaction to transpire.
Suffice it to say, there is minimum burden on the buyer in this certain case.
Money transfer in Uzbekistan can be accomplished by Western Union and other similar bank services.
The amount of transfer is not limited. Yet, it should be noted that transferred amount exceeding $500 has a likelyhood to be tracked.
There is no tax burden either on buyer or seller, as long as it is non-commercial transaction.
My sister-in-law is a citizen of Uzbekistan and a resident of Samarkand, she used to live in Tashkent and wants to move back. She does not have enough money to pay for an apartment in Tashkent, so I plan to help her. Could you give help me to get answers for the following questions:
Does she need to have a permission to live in Tashkent [proposka], how is done?
